Ani-Mayhem Collectible Card Game (1996)

  Anyone still remember this? Collectible card games or CCG  was all the rage in
the nineties, and all thanks to a little game called Magic: the Gathering. Created
by Richard Garfield, Magic became such a sensational hit that a lot of other
company follow suit. Everything was in the CCG craze, Star wars, Star Trek, Lord
of the Rings, The Simpsons, Marvel and DC superheroes, even characters from
the Bible were made into card games.

  Anyway, this is about the first anime collectible card game and also the first to
be playable solo.

The character cards, majority are girls (of course).

  The anime in general comes from four different shows: Ranma 1/2, El Hazard,
Tenchi Muyo, and Bubblegum Crisis, instead of doing just one. Theoretically,
this would've been the coolest thing to happen. Imagine all the different anime
shows share one universe, like that time Marvel and DC characters collide in
the comics. Sadly, it doesn't feel that way in the game.

  The problem is the game mechanics. So many erratas and confusions plague
the players that they just started to make their own play style. The rulebook
is crap, sorry to say.

I wish this could also remove hungry players.

  The basic premise is that you have to scavenge locations for these items. Lay down
seven items (face down) and each item hides two disasters (also face down), then
place the location (face up) on each of them. These are your play area.
Choose four starting characters, the rest is in the draw pile along with your power-ups,
equipments, and effects. Combat cards are a separate deck and they are use in, well,
combat. The locations list the skills necessary to scavenge the place. If your character
doesn't have that skill, he or she can't scavenge that location. I don't know much of
the rules anymore, and it's best to search them on the net cause a lot have change
since this set.

  Aside from this set, which is called set 0, there are two expansions. Set 1 has series
like Phantom Quest Corp, Armitage, Dominion Tank Police, and Project A-ko, with a
special guest by Oh! My Goddess. Set 2 is all Dragon Ball Z, which is a bad thing.

  The Dragon Ball Z set is what cause this card game to fail. The game became
imbalance because of DBZ, too many overpowering cards in that set that it renders
the old sets near useless.

  Another thing is the anime used. With set 0 has some popular shows like Ranma 1/2
or Bubblegum Crisis, etc. Set 1 seems so unknown, or maybe it's just me.

  It is a shame that this card game didn't fly. Imagine the expansions we can get,
characters from different anime butt heads together. With so many errors in the
rules, it's not so hard to see why.

  'Powerful female warriors fighting alien invaders'. That's pretty much sums up
what this online game is all about. No wait, this game is all about T&A!
To be fair, it is a decent game. It's free to play after all and a simple 'click to' control
which is typically what most f2p  mmorpg games are.
  Scarlet Blade (Queen's blade in Korea) is an mmorpg which sports an all female
character called 'Arkana' that players 'command' (though that might be ending soon,
as the korean version have shown a trailer of the first male character called a 'Chaser')
to fight the aliens called 'Narak' that have already decimated most of Earth. As the story
progress, you will learn that the Arkana has split into two factions. They are the
Royal Guards and the Freeknights.

That monster far far behind her is called 'Little Narak'.

  You read it right. You don't play as one of the 6 girls, you are the commander of
your chosen girl. Though you still control her movements and attacks. Your chosen
Arkana also 'talks' to you in the storyline.

This conversation is even more disturbing with this Arkana.

  That Arkana above is a child-like character. One of the 6 Arkana you can chose from is
a little girl. Just like the Elin race from TERA online (another mmorpg from Korea), the
Sentinel is a loli character and in this game, all female characters can be strip down to
their birthday suit including said loli character.

  Don't fret, the U.S. release censored the Sentinel by covering the privates with scale-like

textures. A lot better than the initial censor which makes her look like Aquaman's long lost
little sister. But in order to strip them, you must first purchase a Seal Remover with real
cash. Hey, porn ain't free!

  What makes this game unique than other mmo's is the setting. Sci-Fi mmorpgs are
few, when typical fantasy laden are the norms. There are no Warriors, Elves, or
Dwarven here, but there are Defender, Punisher, Whipper, ShadowWalker, Medic,
and Sentinel. And not only that, once you reach a certain level, you get a mech.
Yes, you can transform into a giant mech and deals a large amount of damage to
your enemies.  Each girls have their own mech design and their own strength
and weaknesses.

   And if that wasn't enough, you also get a cyberskin armor in a later level. This armor is
only used in PVP areas and give huge stats in PVP.

  Once you created your Arkana, she goes through a tutorial of sort. Telling you to 

kill a set number of monsters to continue the story-line. By this point you don't earn 

any experience points from kills beyond what the quest ask of you. If the story tells 

you to kill three scourge beetle, you kill three scourge beetle(do not attack the 

volcano beetle, it will end badly). You will be able to gain experience on your 

own once you reach the first dungeon/cave and so forth. This is okay for the first time 

you play to familiarize yourself with the controls, but it became tedious to do it 

again and again because every time you create a new Arkana, you have to go through 

that 'tutorial' again, and the dialog is the same in all of them.

PVP battles can be very confusing.

  And here is the reason to play this mmorpg (aside from the obvious), the PVP or

player versus player or in this case, Royal Guards versus Freeknights. Anyone who 

plays online multiplayer know that it is more satisfying to defeat a living, thinking, 

unpredictable opponent rather than an A.I. with set skills. Joining with friends, 

create a guild, and finishing quests can be enjoyable. But nothing beats having you 

team go and massacre the other teams in the arena. 

  There three ways to fight against other players in this game. The first one is the duel, a 

one on one fight between agreeing players. The second is the arena/battlefield type 

where a set number of players from both sides fought. There are also conditions to be 

met so you can gain points against the opposition. The third one in the neutral zone,

where you will fight against other players and monsters that are roaming there.

The Titan - 2.4 million ways to hurt you.

This game is for adults only. Not just the nudity, but also the story and the dialogues 

includes some foreplay. Is this game for you? Well, if you're not offended by it's 

sexual content, and can stand the grinding (Leveling up will take a 

long time if you past level 20). But you should try it out if only for the fun PVP, it's like a

wild crazy party with lots of explosions and confusions (the tab button is your best friend).
